The NETIO PowerPDU 8KS is a smart power distribution unit (PDU) with 8 IEC320 C13 individually metered and switched outlets, which can be monitored and controlled over a IP network or from the NETIO Cloud. The green DI (Digital Input) terminal block can be used to connect to a mechanical switch (dry contact) or an external temperature sensor. With the NETIO T1 temperature sensor, a defined output can be switched ON/OFF based on the ambinet room or server rack temperature.

The PowerPDU 8KS can be configured using a web browser (allows output control, connection to NETIO Cloud, Open API communication settings, etc.) and each output is separately metered and can be turned off and on individually. Ready-made AV drivers are available to make it simple to connect the NETIO PDU to professional Audio/Video systems such as BrightSign, Crestron, Control4, Domotz, Elgato Sream Deck, Kramer, RTI, SAVANT, SKAARHOJ and more. With an Open API, integration with third-party systems using various protocols (JSON, Modbus/TCP, SNMP, MQTT-flex, and Telnet) is also straightforward.

PowerPDU 8KS Outlets which can be individually controlled and metered over an IP network. Each power outlet (socket) is metered and can be switched ON/OFF individually allowing the connected loads to be remotely rebooted. A power-up delay and sequence can be configured for each outlet in addition to a remote ON/OFF scheduler function.

PowerPDU 8KS is designed for 19inch rack mount into a server cabinet and is 1U high. The PDU can be configured using a web browser (e.g. output control, connection to NETIO CLOUD and Open API communication settings). The use of an Open API allows integration with third-party systems using various protocols including JSON, Modbus/TCP, SNMP, MQTT-flex and Telnet.

The Netio Cloud service provides a secure HTTPS connection through which to control the device over the internet. A NETIO Cloud ‘welcome credit’ is provided free of charge for each connected device. NETIO Cloud can be used in parallel with other Open API protocols, provides secure device communication (port 8883, MQTTs and TLS) and has its own Open API, which can be used to control all devices in a specific user account (using the MQTTS protocol). The NETIO Mobile2 App (iOS and Android) can also be used to control each individual output over a local area network (LAN) connection.

Electrical Measurements

NETIO PowerPDU 8KS measures electrical parameters – at each outlet. Measured values are displayed in the web administration interface and are also accessible via Open API protocols. NETIO PowerPDU 8KS measures with an accuracy within 1%.

The electrical parameters measured for all 8 individual outlets include:

  • 8x Current (A)
  • 8x Load (W)
  • 8x Energy (Wh) – user-resettable counter
  • 8x Energy Out (Wh)
  • 8x Energy In (Wh)
  • 8x TPF (True Power Factor)
  • 8x Reverse Energy (Wh)
  • 8x Phase shift (-180…180°)
  • Voltage (V)
  • Grid frequency (Hz)

All the measured values are shown in the web administration interface and are accessible via M2M protocols.

DI (DIGITAL INPUT)

The DI (Digital Input) is green terminal block for connecting external mechanical switch (dry contact). Switching On/Off is indicated via the device web interface. Through the DI there is a 12V supplu for powering external devices including smoke and movement detectors. There is also 4bytes pulse counter on the DI (compatible with S0 pulses). 4 bytes counter can be used for the reading consumption from an external meter including water, gas, and 3phase electricity meters.

  • Digital input (DI): 1x input (contact) + S0 counter (4 bytes)
  • Power for DI: 12V power (max 50mA)

A mechanical button (dry contact) or an external temperature sensor can be connected to the green DI input. By pressing a button or a temperature value, the defined output(s) can be switched using C&R (Condition & Rules) conditions.

Power Up State

PowerPDU-8KS can be set to power each socket ON/OFF/RESTORE where RESTORE is the position the socket relay was in prior to power disconnection. This features helps to prevent automatic restarts following a power failure and can be useful for sensitive IT and electronic devices.

Mobile Phone App

PowerPDU-8KS can be controlled over a local network through the NETIO Mobile 2 App, available for Android and iOS devices. The mobile app can be used to scan the local area network (via WiFi) to discover connected devices and control the devices and their outputs.

Zero Current Switching (ZCS)

An important feature of PowerPDU 8KS is the use of ZCS (Zero Current Switching). ZCS controls the exact time when the mechanical relay contacts close and open. The relay contacts switch the output on or off when the current crosses the zero level. Overtime, ZCS help to prevent internal relay damage. As the relay switches when the current waveform crosses the zero level, any negative effects of inrush current are significantly reduced. The ZCS and PowerUp delay functions reduce the chance of circuit breakers tripping when power is restored after an outage. ZCS also extends the lifetime of connected equipment. This is especially so in the case of the frequent ON/OFF switching of devices that are not designed for that function i.e. switching power supplies.

Event Scheduler Function

The Scheduler Function allows the powering ON or OFF of each output to programmed into a weekly day schedule at specific times. This can be a useful features to save energy and periodically reboot connected devices.

  • Each output socket has its own schedule
  • The scheduler works without an internet connection; a time source (NTP server) is needed such as a local ADSL broadband or WiFi router
  • Netio Cloud can also be use to control the outputs when the scheduler is active

Integrations and Drivers

Netio have a number of integrations and drivers for third-party products, services and cloud applications:

  • Smart home automation
  • Intelligent buildings
  • Audio visual AV systems
  • Server rooms and data centres
  • Retail kiosks, signage and lighting
