The NETIO PowerPDU 8QS is a smart power distribution unit (PDU) with 8 IEC320 C13 outlets which can be controlled over an IP network. Each power outlet (socket) can be switched ON/OFF individually allowing the connected loads to be remotely rebooted. A power-up delay and sequence can be configured for each outlet in addition to a remote ON/OFF scheduler function.

PowerPDU 8QS supports two channels for electrical measurements: the PDU as a whole (all outputs combined), and the first output separately (All Outputs + 1). A digital input (DI) can be used to control the outputs or count S0 pulses (electricity meter output).

PowerPDU 8QS is designed for 19inch rack mount into a server cabinet and is 1U high. The PDU can be configured using a web browser (e.g. output control, connection to NETIO CLOUD and Open API communication settings).

The use of an Open API allows integration with third-party systems using various protocols including JSON, Modbus/TCP, SNMP, MQTT-flex and Telnet. Ready-made AV drivers are also available and make it simple to connect the NETIO PDU to professional Audio/Video systems including Neets, Crestron, Control4, RTI, Savant and more.

The Netio Cloud service provides a secure HTTPS connection through which to control the device over the internet. A NETIO Cloud ‘welcome credit’ is provided free of charge for each connected device. NETIO Cloud can be used in parallel with other Open API protocols, provides secure device communication (port 8883, MQTTs and TLS) and has its own Open API, which can be used to control all devices in a specific user account (using the MQTTS protocol). The NETIO Mobile2 App (iOS and Android) can also be used to control each individual output over a local area network (LAN) connection.

Electrical Measurements

NETIO PowerPDU 8QS measures electrical parameters – at the input for the device as a whole (all outlets) and the first outlet (Output 1). Measured values are displayed in the web administration interface and are also accessible via Open API protocols. NETIO PowerPDU 8QS measures with an accuracy within 1%.

The electrical parameters measured for all 8 outlets (Total PDU) and on one individual socket (Outlet 1) include:

Electrical Parameter Total PDU Outlet 1
Grid Frequency [Hz] Yes
Electrical Voltage [V] Yes
Total Current [A] Yes Yes
Total Power [W] Yes Yes
Overall TruePF [-]) Yes Yes
Overall Phase Shift [°] Yes Yes
Total Energy [kWh] Yes Yes (Wh)
Total Reverse Energy [kWh] Yes Yes (Wh)

For individual power outlet measurement see the PowerPDU 8KS as the 8KS has 8x individually metered and switched PDU outlets.

DI (DIGITAL INPUT)

A digital input (DI) can be used to control the outputs or count S0 pulses. The DI can be connected to a button (dry contact) or used as a S0 pulse counter for reading energy consumption from an external electricity meter. The DI state and the S0 counter value are shown in the web interface and accessible over Open API.

  • Digital input (DI): 1x input (contact) + S0 counter (4 bytes)
  • Power for DI: 12V power (max 50mA)

Power Up State

PowerPDU-8QS can be set to power each socket ON/OFF/RESTORE where RESTORE is the position the socket relay was in prior to power disconnection. This features helps to prevent automatic restarts following a power failure and can be useful for sensitive IT and electronic devices.

Mobile Phone App

PowerPDU-8QS can be controlled over a local network through the NETIO Mobile 2 App, available for Android and iOS devices. The mobile app can be used to scan the local area network (via WiFi) to discover connected devices and control the devices and their outputs.

Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS)

PowerPDU-8QS uses ZVS to control the exact time the mechanical relay contacts close or open an ensures that this is at the zero crossing on the AC sinewave. ZVS reduces wear and tear on the relays and reduces the negative effects of inrush current i.e. circuit breaker nuisance tripping.

Event Scheduler Function

The Scheduler Function allows the powering ON or OFF of each output to programmed into a weekly day schedule at specific times. This can be a useful features to save energy and periodically reboot connected devices.

  • Each output socket has its own schedule
  • The scheduler works without an internet connection; a time source (NTP server) is needed such as a local ADSL broadband or WiFi router
  • Netio Cloud can also be use to control the outputs when the scheduler is active

Integrations and Drivers

Netio have a number of integrations and drivers for third-party products, services and cloud applications:

  • Smart home automation
  • Intelligent buildings
  • Audio visual AV systems
  • Server rooms and data centres
  • Retail kiosks, signage and lighting
