ISO 50001 is an international standard for energy management systems (EnMS) that provides a framework for organisations to systematically manage and improve their energy performance, leading to reduced costs and environmental impact.To achieve compliance to ISO5001 an organisation should have in place an energy management software to collate metering and consumption data that can be used for reviews, establishing baseline energy consumption, and tracking Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs).
A building management system (BMS) is primarily concerned with building automation and monitoring, primarily lighting and HVAC (heating, air conditioning and ventilation) systems. An energy management system is more focused on the monitoring and reporting of energy usage throughout the building by all the monitored systems in order to improve energy efficiency.
An Energy management system (EMS or EnMS) is a set of hardward and software products designed to monitor, control, and improve energy usgae throughout a range of buildings including commercial, industrial and residential and within specific high-usage functional areas including server rooms and data centres.
