Control room power protection plans are generally based on a combination of an uninterruptible power supply and backup power generator. Resilience will be built into the UPS solution through the use of a modular N+1 approach or the use monobloc UPS installed in parallel to provide redundancy. A local standby generator may also be used to provide long term power to the uninterruptible power supply until mains power is restored. This allows for a smaller UPS battery, with the generator sized to provide 8-12 hours of power and also support other essential loads in the rooms including lighting and HVAC systems.
