A security control room is a room dedicated to the security of a building or facility, where all the related systems can be monitored together including outside perimeter fences and entry gates/barriers, access control systems, video and CCTV camera surveillance systems, alarm security sytems, and fire control and other systems connected to a building management system (BMS) board. Security control rooms are commonly found on large sites such as an industrial manufacturing complex or data centre facility.
Control Room UPS and Backup Power for Secure Rooms
Control rooms can be found in many industries and bring together monitoring and control systems into a central location from which to provide an emergency callout service or monitor and control a facility, including building security or industrial manufacturing professes. A control room uptime is dependent on secure power solutions being in place and this can include an uninterruptible power supply with backup power for long duration power outages in the form of a standby power genertor. Critical to the uptime of a control room is to ensure the power supply systems supplying each IT network component including wall mounted displays are power protected.
UPS Backup Power Protection for Control Rooms
Resilient control operations are central to our emergency services. Whether the control room is operating for a police force head quarters, fire station, ambulance depot or roadside call out service centre, the control room must be capable of running 24/7 without power interruption. Each work station must be protected from power outages either via centrally managed and controlled UPS solutions or individual ups systems.
An Uninterruptible Power Supply and Backup Power Generator Solution
Complete power protection can only be achieved with a resilient uninterruptible power supply and standby power generator solution. Any loss of power can prove disastrous whether intention through a terrorist or planned intrusion event or unplanned and connected to an extreme weather event or natural disaster.
Control room power protection plans are generally based on a combination of an uninterruptible power supply and backup power generator. Resilience will be built into the UPS solution through the use of a modular N+1 approach or the use monobloc UPS installed in parallel to provide redundancy. A local standby generator may also be used to provide long term power to the uninterruptible power supply until mains power is restored. This allows for a smaller UPS battery, with the generator sized to provide 8-12 hours of power and also support other essential loads in the rooms including lighting and HVAC systems.
