A Serial IP stands for ‘Serial Internet Protocol’ and a serial IP to Ethernet converter or adapter is a device that converts Ethernet IP/TCP packets to either RS232 or RS495 serial data signals. The device is also referred to as a serial device server. Serial IP to Ethernet converters can be built into environ monitors which may also include a number of digital inputs and digital outputs for monitoring and control purposes.
A serial IP to Ethernet converter used to connect a serial RS232 or RS485 serial port over a standard LAN Ethernet-based network. For an environment monitor with digital I/O this allows a master station computer or server to monitor and control devices remotely.
